JonathangoestoCheckpointCharlietocrosstheheavilyfortifiedborderintoWestBerlin.AttheEastGermancustomssearch,Jonathanisstrippedofhisclothesandgivenacavitysearch.Meanwhile,Sashaisstrippedandsearchedforpossibleespionageevidence.VladarrivesatthebordercrossingtosearchforJonathan,howeverJonathanpassesthebordersafelybeforehecanbecaptured.OnceinWestBerlin,JonathanfeelsliberatedbytheWesternizedsociety.Inthehotel,JonathanreceivesamessagefromSashatomeethimataspecifiedlocation.Jonathanfindsoutthathishotelroomwasbrokenintoandrobbedofhistraveler'schecks.SovietagentseventuallyfindJonathaninWestBerlinandchasehimthroughoutapublicpark.JonathanjumpsintoawatercanalandmanagestoescapefromtheSovietsandstumblesuponaGermanrockgroupheadedforHamburg,whoofferhimaridetotheairport. TherockgroupsuccessfullygetJonathantotheairport(usingfull-facemakeuptosneakhimpastacheckpoint)andJonathanfinallyarrivesinLosAngelesTomBradleyInternationalAirportandtohisapartment.Soon,VladandabandofSovietagentsarrivetooinLosAngeles.Oncehome,Jonathanstumblesuponafilmcanister,whichwasplantedbySasha.JonathanvisitshisparentsandtellsthemwhathappenedinGermanybuttheycannotbelieveawordofitandthinkJonathanisondrugs.JonathandecidestocalltheFBIthentheCentralIntelligenceAgencyforhelp.Jonathanreturnstofindhisapartmentbrokenintoandlooted.
